Maegan Winters, MFT Intern

Hi there!

I am currently enrolled in National University's Marriage and Family Therapy Program and plan to graduate in February, 2025.  I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in history, from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2014.  It took me a few years to decide that I wanted to pursue my Master's and get back on track, before I started the program that I'm in in 2020.  After years of working customer service jobs such as serving and bartending, I realized that my true desire was to help people on a deeper, emotional level.  One of my passions in life is helping others navigate and work through their problems that affect their overall well-being.  I believe that everyone deserves to live an enjoyable, joyful, fulfilled life.  Each day is a gift, and time goes by so fast, it's essential that we try to enjoy and appreciate every moment that we have on this earth.

Even though my program is geared towards couples and families, I plan on working with individuals from all walks of life.  Being a wife myself, I understand how much work goes into maintaining a marriage and sometimes it takes a 3rd person to step in and help, when all other avenues have failed.  Marriage and family therapists are trained to see an individual's problems as part of a larger system, and it is our job to find what's not working and help make some changes.  Like a mechanic fixing an engine problem that the driver had no idea existed!  I consider myself very open-minded, compassionate and motivated and no problem is too big or taboo.  I have experience in working with children, adolescents, senior citizens, sex addicts, people living and working through PTSD and people healing from past trauma.  I have done extensive studying and learning about people who suffer from eating disorders and I hope to someday be a specialist in this field as well.

In my spare time, I enjoy cleaning, reading, traveling and playing frisbee with my dogs.   I nurture my friendships and take an active role in maintaining them. Whenever I have the chance, I love being outdoors and just meditating, enjoying and soaking up everything that nature has to offer.  I'm grateful for the opportunity Rebekah has given me to receive guidance from her, and I'm excited to join others in their journey in healing and growing.
